Employee Spotlight: Connie - Hummingbird Lane Fabrics and Notions

Here at Hummingbird Lane we have dubbed August as Women Empowerment month. As a female business owner, a mother, a wife, and a friend, I fully recognize the juggling that women have to do in life and I think we are all amazing! I also recognize that my shop would not be as successful as it if it weren't for the amazing women I have working in the shop.

Our forth spotlight is Connie. She's loves the Lord and English Paper Piecing  Read more about her below:

I’m Connie Allen.

There are three things I would like to have you know about me:

  • I love the Lord and enjoy studying and learning more about Him each day.
  • I love quilting! learned how to quilt from my best friend, Cyndy over 20 years ago. I’m not a perfectionist, nor do I do “high math”. Both of these characteristics are uncommon for quilters, but I’ve managed. I have jumped in with both feet over the years and love machine embroidery and serger work as well. I do edge to edge quilting with my embroidery machine.
  • I am enjoying English Paper piecing, hand embroidery, and knitting. I have just begun the EPP since I took a class from Lesley, I’ve been hand embroidering for some time and I have only knitted dish cloths. My mother taught me how to knit and I’m proud to carry on with supplying dish cloths to my family and friends.

Anything connected with sewing is fun for me. Outside of sewing, I love to cook and garden, spend time with friends and family.

I love the color wall at Hummingbird Lane. Also, Ruby Star, Alison Glass, and the toweling fabrics.

I have made several items with toweling. Table runners, placemats, the technology travel roll, double ended oven mitt all from the “Farmhouse Fresh” book by Jenelle Kent.

Some of my favorite things in the shop are the small “Steamfast” irons because I make the small ironing caddies. I’m teaching a class on the caddies soon.

For EPP, the Sue Daley Little Keeper. I love setting it up to make my thread and needles so handy. I had my husband drill a small hole for my scissors. Sew tites are also a favorite to hold my pieces together.

Connie,
Tony and I are so happy and excited to know that you are a believer. We praise God and thank you for your testimony on this public space.
Our only comfort is that we are not our own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ (from Heidelberg Catechism).
